SQLDeveloper on Mac hung at Startup – JDK upgrade solved the issue

All of a sudden, SQL Developer on my Mac stopped working. When starting SQL Developer, it hung at the splash screen.

No progress. Never …

My first idea was to reinstall SQLDeveloper, which is not a great thing as the settings are kept, but then I checked the version of my JDK and found, that it was still on JDK 8u111.

So I downloaded the current JDK, 8u131, from the JDK Download Page, installed it, and …

.. SQL Developer comes up without any issues 🙂
